Mangaluru, Jul 4: Dept of psychiatry, Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya deemed to be University organized a national level workshop, YENMIND-8 at Yenepoya Nursing Home Kankanady Mangaluru on June 26. The theme for the workshop was 'Seeing the Unseen: Radiology Basics for Psychiatrists'.
On the occasion, St Aloysius deemed to be University signed a MoU with department of psychiatry, Yenepoya deemed to be University to partner in providing mental health services to St Aloysius students and joint academic activities. Fr Dr Praveen Martis was the chief guest for the function and signed the MoU on behalf of St Aloysius deemed to be University and Dr Anil Kakunje, head, department of psychiatry signed on behalf of Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya deemed to be University.
Fr Dr Praveen Martis inaugurated the center by releasing two birds to freedom symbolizing the activities of YENCOURAGE which is celebrating its 5th anniversary as a Mental Health Rehabilitation Center. He stressed on the importance of mental health and the activities done to promote mental health at St Aloysius Institute. June 26 is also observed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The significance of this is huge as a vast number of youth and young population getting into this menace. Prof AV Moideen Kutty, advisor to Yenepoya deemed to be University presided over the function and appreciated the academic activities of the department and the center. Dr Moosabba, principal YMC, Dr Abhay Nirgude, dean YMC, Dr Ashwini Dutt, dean Yenepoya deemed to be University, Dr Mohammed Thahir, director YSH, Mr Yenepoya Javed, Dr Veena Akhil, manager Yenepoya Nursing Home were present on the occasion. Dr Anil Kakunje welcomed the gathering and Dr Ravichandra Karkal concluded with the vote of thanks.
Yenepoya Wellness, Counselling, Day care and Rehabilitation Centre – YENCOURAGE was inaugurated exactly 5 years back on June 26, 2019 at Yenepoya Nursing Home building, Kankanady, Mangaluru. This is one-of-the-first facility of its kind managed by a medical college dept in DK district to provide day care services and long stay facility for patients with mental illness. Vocational training is also provided and patients spend time in activities of their interest. Fun activities, music, games, exercise, computer assisted training programs are available. Patients of any age can avail the facility. The centre is professionally managed with a team of professionals involving psychiatrists, psychologist, counsellors and rehabilitation specialist for out-patient and in-patient consultations.
The psychiatry department runs a free 24x7 free psychiatry helpline service with number: 9108919025 since last 6 years. Chief guest Fr Martis made a call to the helpline to mark a start on the occasion.
The workshop had eminent radiologists as resource persons namely Dr Srinivas Shentar from Delta Scans Bengaluru, Dr Devadas Acharya, Dr Ravichandra G, and Dr Vishwanath Reddy from Mangaluru.
