Mangaluru, Jul 4: National Doctors’ Day, celebrated annually on the July 1, is a day to honour the dedication and service of physicians who tirelessly work to care for the sick and promote health in society. To commemorate this special occasion, St Agnes School CBSE organized Doctors’ Day celebration on the July 2 in the school auditorium.

The event was a way to express gratitude to the selfless doctors who are the parents of students who serve the community with compassion and expertise. Despite numerous doctor-parents within the school community, only five could participate in the commendation ceremony, underscoring the demanding nature of their schedules.

The event began with a touching gesture as the esteemed chief guest, Sr Dr Lydia Fernandes, former principal of St Ann’s College of Education, was presented with light and crystal lotus flower. These symbolic gestures represented healing and guidance for those in need. Doctors present at the event were also honoured with crystal lotus flowers containing lamps. The gesture aimed to show appreciation for the invaluable contributions of physicians to society and highlight their role as beacons of hope and healing for the afflicted.

A poignant prayer service emphasizing values such as compassion, empathy, hope, and wellbeing was orchestrated by the students, accompanied by a melodious prayer song. Following this, a rhythmic welcome dance was presented by students, and the gathering was warmly greeted by teacher Janet Antony.

The event was meticulously organized, featuring a student skit that artfully conveyed the annual theme of ‘Healing Hands, Caring Hearts.’ The occasion was marked by a poignant acknowledgment of its significance. A tribute dance dedicated to doctors eloquently captured the challenges they face in their noble profession.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed physicians such as Dr Kelvin Pias, Dr Sowmya Kotiyan, Dr Kurian P S, Dr Khateeja Batool and Dr Sowdha Banu. Each doctor was bestowed with a ceremonial shawl as a token of respect and admiration, accompanied by a gift of fruits symbolizing health and prosperity, and a memento commemorating their dedication and profound impact. Furthermore, a special gift was presented, signifying collective recognition of their exceptional accomplishments and service.

In his speech, Dr Kelvin Pais emphasized the significance of values and the imperative nature of embracing change. He stressed the pivotal role of positive feedback in nurturing student growth while cautioning against both restlessness and relentlessness. Dr Pais also acknowledged that receiving this accolade marked a pinnacle in his esteemed career.

As the chief guest, Sr Dr Lydia Fernandes AC, expressed appreciation for the innovative initiative to honour distinguished individuals. She advised students to adopt the resolve: “I shall not take riches to the grave; instead, I shall depart empty-handed.” Sr Dr Fernandes encouraged students to cultivate emotional intelligence, self-discipline, and self-regulation, emphasizing the importance of constantly affirming their commitment to excellence.

The programme was attended by principal Sr Maria Sarika AC, vice principal Sr Meena Fernandes AC, coordinator Sr Reshma D’Souza AC, staff, and students.

The event’s hosts, Adithi Prabhu and Dwani Sanil, guided the programme seamlessly. Veeksha Dhanraj expressed gratitude, extending thanks for everyone is outstanding participation and conveying best wishes for the success of all the medical professionals. The event concluded with the rendition of the school anthem.

In recognition of these contributions, National Doctors’ Day serves as an opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices made by doctors in their daily practice.
