Mangaluru, Jul 2: An orientation programme for the parents was organized at St Mary’s PU College on June 29 in the college auditorium. The orientation programme was designed to introduce parents to the college community and to provide them with essential information to support their child’s education and well-being.
The programme started by evoking the blessings of the almighty, followed by the welcome note extended to the parents by Smitha Karat (lecturer in Biology).
Sharmila Sanil, a motivational speaker and councilor, was the resource person for the day. She was escorted by Vijayalakshmi (principal in-charge of St Mary’s PU College) along with Sr Marie Lucy (administrator of St Mary’s PU College) and Sr Maria Kripa (correspondent and local superior of St Mary’s Institution). The dignitaries on the dais were given a floral welcome by Vijayalakshmi and Supriya Bhat (lecturer in Physics) respectively. Sr Maria kripa, in her speech welcomed and introduced the principal in-charge and college administrator and also emphasised that parents and students are indispensable as well as students are precious and their responsibility too.
Sanil addressed the gathering and insisted the parents to have conversation with their child. She urged the parents to be supportive, to stay involved with their child. She urged parents to spend quality time with their child as “time is precious” and also shared tips on good parenting. She also discussed the importance of punctuality and also drawbacks of social media and also stressed on healthy sleep and healthy lifestyles. By involving parents in the discussion, she created an interactive environment that promoted collaboration and understanding between home and school.
The principal accorded a heartfelt welcome to the parents and intimated them about the rules and regulations of the college. She oriented the parents on the areas of responsibility, punctuality and good health of the students.
Parents were then introduced to the college website by Treeza Vas (lecturer in Computer Science). She explained about the applications designed for assisting the students as well as parents regarding the information of courses, subjects, time-table, etc.
The programme was compered by Thanujakshi (lecturer in Economics) and vote of thanks was proposed by Chaithra (lecturer in Commerce). The programme came to an end by the singing of the national anthem and serving all the parents with refreshments.
