Udupi, May 25: The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) celebrated the culmination of its Inter Collegiate Sports & Games for the academic year 2023-24 with a grand prize distribution function held on May 22 at the Counselling Hall Edu, MAHE, Manipal.
Organized by the Sports Council of MAHE, the event saw enthusiastic participation from the staff and students of MAHE's constituent colleges.
The prize distribution function, held on May 22, at the Counselling Hall Edu, MAHE, Manipal, was graced by the presence of pro chancellor Dr H S Ballal, vice chancellor Lt gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh VSM (retd), pro vice chancellors, heads of institutions (HOIs), heads of departments (HODs), MAHE officials, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students.
During the prize distribution function, pro chancellor Dr H S Ballal emphasized the importance of organizing such functions to motivate staff and students to participate more actively in sports and games. He highlighted how sports events foster a sense of community, teamwork, and healthy competition. He also pointed out that engaging in sports not only enhances physical fitness but also builds character and resilience, essential qualities for both personal and professional growth. He encouraged the continuation of these events, noting that they play a crucial role in the holistic development of individuals.
Vice chancellor Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, VSM (Retd) expanded on these sentiments by stressing the health benefits of regular participation in sports. He highlighted that involvement in at least one or two games helps maintain physical health, improves coordination, and provides a necessary break from academic and professional routines. He also underscored the social benefits, stating that sports activities foster better relationships among staff and students, promoting a sense of unity and cooperation within the MAHE community. He urged everyone to actively engage in sports to cultivate a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
The MIT, Manipal was declared the overall champion of the MAHE Inter Collegiate Sports & Games for the year 2023-24. Commander (Dr) Anil Rana, director of MIT, Manipal, received the overall championship trophy from pro chancellor Dr H S Ballal and vice chancellor Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh. Dr Upendra Nayak, director of physical education at MIT, Manipal, was also present during the function.
The event concluded on a high note, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among MAHE's diverse community. The Sports Council of MAHE continues to play a very important role in promoting sports and physical activities, encouraging everyone to lead a healthier and more engaging lifestyle.
