Bahrain, Mar 4: On Sunday, March 3, the faithful gathered at the Mother Church for a special celebration Mass of the Sacred Heart Church. The celebration, which marked a significant milestone in the history of the parish. Every year on March 3, the Sacred Heart Church recalls the day of her dedication in a solemn celebration, for all the parishioners.
The solemn Mass was a joyous occasion, with a beautiful and soul-stirring service, filled with prayers, hymns, and blessings, attended by members of the clergy from the Sacred Heart Church and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia, Awali, and parishioners. Bishop Aldo Berardi, apostolic vicar of the Northern Arabia, preceded over the Mass, leading the congregation in a special service to honour the significance of this sacred place.
During the celebration, prayers were offered for the work of the parish community, its future growth, and the spiritual well-being of all those who worship in the new church. "The theological aspect of the dedication is that we are the true Body of Christ, and the spiritual aspect is that we grow in our relation with God," quoted Bishop Aldo Berardi.
The ceremony Mass is to remind the dedication day that was done on March 3, 1940, of the Sacred Heart Church which represents a new chapter in the life of the parish, as it provides a sacred space for worship, prayer, and fellowship for generations to come. As the Sacred Heart Church continues to serve the spiritual needs of the community, the dedication ceremony serves as a reminder of the importance of faith, community, and dedication to the work of the church.
Sacred Heart Church, Bahrain was first established on the December 24, 1939. It is the first church to be built in the region. It was Shaikh Haman Bin Isa Al Khalifa, then Ruler of Bahrain, who graciously offered a plot of land to build the church, and with the help of Fr Luigi, a capuchin priest, the church was built. It was on June 9, 1939 that the first foundation stone was laid. On March 3, 1940, the church was formally blessed.
