Mangaluru, Jan 17: YEN-Refined, Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development, the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) organized a webinar for the PhD aspirants to offer insights into the manifold aspects of conducting research on January 14.
The principal of YIASCM, Dr Arun A Bhagwath inaugurated the session, emphasizing the significance of research and development (R and D) in knowledge creation. He pointed out that the world's top 10 leading nations give priority to this field, underlining the necessity for young researchers and academicians in India to focus on R and D to contribute towards addressing societal challenges for the country's overall development.
The keynote speaker, Dr Vinitha Ramanath Pai, director of the PhD programme at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), advised the attendees on research practices. She emphasized the need for each thesis to be novel and original, and she stressed the importance of ethical research practices. Dr Pai also discussed the significance of publishing in recognized journals like Scopus and ABDC, and the value of collaborative work for enhancing research quality. She recommended the participants to take courses in research methodology and statistical analysis on platforms like Coursera and Swayam as a part of their coursework.
Dr Vaibhav Meshram, principal of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Bengaluru campus, in his presidential speech, encouraged faculty members to balance teaching with research, highlighting the growing importance of research in educational institutions.
Dr Priyamvadha Sharma, research coordinator for the Bengaluru campus, acknowledged the pivotal role played by Dr Vinitha Ramanath Pai and Dr Arun A Bhagwath in nurturing a research culture among faculty members.
Lastly, Dr Niyaz Panakaje, coordinator of Yen Refined, concluded the session by informing the attendees about future programmes planned by the center that will benefit scholars in the short and medium term.
The webinar was a resounding success with Dr Prashanth from the department of management, YIASCM taking the lead and attended by 70 participants.
