Kundapur, Jan 9: IMJ Science and Commerce College organised a competition titled 'IMJISC Young leader – 2024' for progress of the country and to mould global leaders to create awareness of the importance of young leadership.
“The qualities needed to be a student leader, the preparations to be a leader and the importance of the art of communication in the student life were the concepts of the competition. The final round and prize distribution will be held on January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda,” said brand building director Dr Ramakrishna Hegde. He was speaking in a news conference held at the Kundapura Press Club.
College principal Dr Prathibha Patil said that the competition was held for selected PUC college students from Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts. “More than 200 students from nearly 20 colleges participated in the competitions. The first round was titled ‘Just a minute’. The competing students spoke on the subject selected by himself for one or two minutes. Three students were selected on the basis of their art of communication, knowledge of the subject and clarity of thought. The students selected during the first round have been awarded prizes and certificates through their colleges. Selected students will participate in the final round. All the students who took part in the first round will be presented certificates. As many as 60 students from 90 colleges are already selected for the final round. They will take part in the final round of competitions at Moodlakatte campus on January 12.”
Vice-principal Prof Jayasheela Kumar said that the competition will be exciting. “The winners of the final round will be presented with the IMGSC Young leader 2024 award. The first prize consists of an attractive trophy, Rs 5,000 cash and a certificate. The second prize winner will be awarded Rs 2,000 and a certificate,” she said.
The programme will be inaugurated by Lions Club former district governor and international motivational speaker Neelakanta M Hegde. College principal Dr Prathibha Patil will preside over the programme.
Brand building director of the institute, Dr Ramakrishna Hegde and vice principal will be present. Bhandarkars College retired principal Narayana Shetty will take part. The hall programme will be presided over by IMJ institute president Siddarth J Shetty,” he said.
