Mangalore, Aug 19: An international seminar on ‘Herman Moegling-200th year of his commemoration’ was jointly organized by Karnataka Theological College, Karnataka Sahithya Academy and Kittel Foundation at KTC Bishop Jathanna Hall here on Thursday August 18.
Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) former vice-chancellor B A Vivek Rai inaugurated the seminar. Speaking on the occasion he said that the contribution of missionaries to the country’s education and literature is commendable. They are the ones made a great revolution in the educational field, he noted.
Other than the notion that missionaries have made attempts of conversion, there is a need to explore the various others beneficial works done by them for the betterment of society. When it comes to Moegling, very little has been known to the world while there is much more to be known about him.
He has immensely contributed to Kannada is well documented he added. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof T C Shivshankar presided. He said that the district’s stand in the education today is because of the efforts of missionaries.
Mangalore University retired professor Dr B Surendra Rao, KTC principal Dr Hannibal Cabral among others presented papers on Moegling and his literary and educational activities during his stay in Karnataka.
State Sahithya Academy President Prof H M Krishnaiah, Registrar V N Mallikarjunaswamy, KTC Principal Dr Hannibal Cabral among others were present on the occasion.
