Bangalore: Truck Strike from Today

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Aug 18: Demanding shelving of dual policy because of which the truck owners based in south India are compelled to shell out additional toll charges, trucks all over the state will undertake a protest by way of suspending movement of goods vehicles in southern states with effect from midnight on August 18.

This was announced by B R Shanmukhappa, president of Karnataka Lorry Owners and Agents Union. He said that the Hubli bypass road had been built by spending Rs 62 crore, and that the toll collection there so far has exceeded Rs 450 crore. “This is a scam which is bigger than the 2G scam,” he alleged.

Shanmukhappa also demanded for the withdrawal of a cess of two rupees being levied on every litre of diesel bought, and to stop collection of toll charges in rural belts. He warned that the trucks will remain off the roads till the government responds to these demands favourably.
