Mangalore, Aug 17: The members of Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (Korwa), founded by people from Konkan region returning from abroad to reach out and help fellow returnees in need of assistance, met at Don Bosco hall here recently.
Addressing the members, president of the Association Louis Lobo said that Korwa was formed exclusively for the benefit of people from coastal region returning from abroad. The Association plans to set up a fund to look after the educational and medical needs of the members' children and for the welfare of the senior members of the community, he added.
Chief guest Melwin D'Cunha lauded the Association for its social service activities towards fellow Konkans.
Diana, a beneficiary expressed her gratitude towards the Association for helping her out in her time of need. She lost her husband and was faced with the tall task of building her house on her own, and also looking after her two children. It was then that Korwa extended its support to her, along with the Bishop.
Jacintha Pinto proposed the vote of thanks. Benna Pejar compered the programme.

Korwa was founded by 5 like minded gulf returnees namely Louis lobo (President Korwa), Violet Pereira (General Secretary), John V Tauro (Public Relation officer), David D'Souza (Cultural Secretary), and Joseph Pereira ( Founder member) in 2011. Joseph Martis is the vice president and Patrick Pinto is the treasurer of the committee.
