Mangaluru, Sep 18: “Human brain should outstand AI Tools. Research has no boundaries," said Dr Rekha P D, professor & director of Yenepoya Research Centre, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), chief guest of the valedictory programme of the three-day research workshop organised by YEN-REFINED – Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development held at The Yenepoya Institute of arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM).
The three-day national level research workshop on “Construction of Research Instruments in Social Sciences: Validation and Development” concluded today with an immense appreciation from all the participants. The chief guest of the valedictory programme Dr Rekha P D spoke about the importance of human creativity and innovation in tackling new challenges in research. She enumerated the ineffectiveness of using AI tools in research and numerous ways in which the researcher would lose his capability of analysing the output of research because of lack of in-depth knowledge. She urged the researchers to reflect on their experiences, make conscious efforts to learn, improve and to adapt to think and rethink while dong research. The chief guest’s address served as a reminder to all researchers that although technology and AI tools are aids in research, it is only the human brain which can lead to research advancement and application.
The guest of honour Shubha Rekha, statistician and dean of academics, St Agnes College (Autonomous) Mangaluru connected all the researchers to a wealth of statistical knowledge, which was truly acknowledged by all the participants. The vice-principal Dr Shareena P expatiated in her presidential remarks that research is a continuous learning process and there is no age limit to transcend in research. Divya Anchan from department of management extended a warm welcome to all the participants and Chaithra Shetty, assistant controller of examination, YIASCM, took the last leap to thank everyone in making this workshop a successful one. The organisers whole heartedly acknowledged the efforts and dedication of the co-coordinator Shahid, HOD, department of commerce, YIASCM for his meticulous arrangements in conducting this workshop.
The three-day research workshop was a true learning experience to all the budding researchers which was spread-out in 5 sessions. The first session was handled by a passionate researcher Dr Rashmi Kodikal, professor, Graphical Era University, Dehradun who shared her expertise in providing a solid theoretical framework in developing research instruments. The second session was facilitated by Dr Shareena P, vice-principal, dean of commerce & management, YIASCM where the participants learnt about how to conduct a thorough literature review and align it with the development of research instruments. Dr Niyaz Panakaje, coordinator of YEN-REFINED, in the third session guided the participants through the measurement of scales in instrument development and the various phases in questionnaire development. Dr Abhishek, assistant professor, Srinivas University, delved into the qualitative methods and techniques used to construct research instruments. The workshop was concluded with a session led by Shubha Rekha, statistician and dean of academics, St Agnes College (Autonomous) Mangaluru, who focused on quantitative approaches in instrument development. Participants gained insights into statistical aspects of instrument reliability and validation.
The three-day research workshop provided a comprehensive understanding of instrument development encompassing both theoretical and practical aspects. The diverse sessions led by esteemed resource persons equipped participants with knowledge and skills necessary to create robust research instruments. The research workshop was successful in promoting instrument development expertise among the participants.
