Mangalore: Narrow Escape for Family as Tree Falls on House

Mangalore, Aug 2: It was a lucky escape for seven of a family when a tree uprooted and fell on their house on the morning of Tuesday August 2 here, extensively damaging it in the bargain.
All the members of the family sustained minor injuries, but no casualty was reported.
A mango tree in the backyard of a house in Bajilkeri in Bunder here, in which a person named N Yogish Acharya has been residing since the last 45 years, got uprooted and fell on the house at around 3.50 am on Tuesday.
The tree and its branches penetrated through the tiled roof of the house and smashed its walls. The house suffered large-scale damages, and the loss in the incident is estimated at two lac rupees.
Heavy rains in region over the past few days have caused havoc, damaging crops and houses across the district. While low-lying areas were inundated, streets were flooded with water causing traffic problems.
On Tuesday, the wall of another house, belonging to Pramod in Kandak area near the office of Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner here collapsed due to incessant rains at around 2.30 am.
