Mangaluru, May 31: The new academic year 2023-24 began with great zeal and enthusiasm at St Agnes CBSE school with the facilitators attending a two days orientation session given by eminent personalities on May 25-26.
The important topics that were presented for the session were Strength-Based Learning – Teacher perspective, Mental Health and Life Skills Education for teachers, Spirituality of a true teacher and Service Learning – An approach to Education of the Heart, Head and Hands'.
On the first day the session on mental health and life skills was presented by Dr Roshan Monterio the resource person who is currently providing his service as an asst professor at dept of Studies and Research in social work at St Aloysius College. He gave a deep insight on the mental health of a teacher, the strength and weakness of a teacher with recognising the prospect of Who am I? including some activities and discussions, strategies with how important one needs to balance the life skills from teacher perspective was well coordinated to the teachers.
The second day session lead the facilitators towards spirituality which was presented by Fr Vinaya Kumar who is providing his minstrel service at Diocese of Chikmangaluru. He discussed on the topic of importance of spirituality in a teacher. A lively session of humour, prayer and meditation along with recognising the inner self and becoming a right teacher. He also discussed the topics of nature of spirituality, types of spirituality etc.
Another important topic was also enlightened to the teachers on Service learning that would be implemented to the students for the academic year. Dr Sr Dorothy AC the principal of St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), shared valuable information on the topic to the facilitators.
The meaning and importance of service learning, the various stages, components, benefits, various examples of service-learning projects etc was briefly discussed with teachers.
The sessions were attended by the principal Sr Maria Sarika AC, vice principal Sister Lenita Lobo AC, coordinator Sr Sweedal Fernandes AC and all the facilitators of the school.
The guests were given a cordial welcome by Sr Lenita Lobo AC, Sr Sweedal Fernandes AC and Daphne D’Souza. The vote of thanks was proposed by Josephine Ignetto, Lavina Peris and Philomena.
