Mangaluru, Mar 18: Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) plans to build a separate play area for special children in Kadri Park to encourage extra-curricular activities among such children.
The play area is being built at a cost of Rs 50 lac with adequate infrastructure for the above purpose. The MUDA is in the process of inviting tenders for the project.
Although there are schools for special children and even playgrounds at the school level, in the city there are no such exclusive facilities for special children depriving them of their extra-curricular needs. The MUDA has decided to dedicate a portion of the Kadri Park exclusively for special children with additional facilities such as eating areas and restrooms being planned to be provided.

Special children studying in such schools of the city have to spend at least a day in a week at the park, according to MUDA. Meetings have been held in the authority in this regard and to provide the required facilities.
Kadri Park has a play area for other children but it is not an exclusive area for special children. Play equipment in the Park is not disabled-friendly. Keeping these impediments in mind, MUDA has reserved a separate play area of 35 cents for specially-abled children. The blueprint for the play area is being readied and will be released soon.
Kadri Park has seen development in the recent past. A fountain has been erected with a view to beautifying the park. The roads leading to the park are part of the smart city project.
