Mangalore, Jun 8: The Dakshina Kannada Anti Corruption Forum organized a postcard campaign condemning the centre’s action against Baba Ramdev, who was on a hunger strike at Ramlila Grounds opposing the issue of black money and corruption. The campaign started at the Head Post Office, Pandeshwar here on Wednesday June 8 at 11 am.
As many as 500 postcards were posted through the forum. The postcard read “Sir, I condemn government action against the peaceful Dharna at Ramlila Grounds. I am for a corruption free administration” which was addressed to the Prime Minister, South Block, New Delhi-110001.
Speaking on the occasion, TR Bhat, convener of the forum said that the centre’s move to attack on peaceful protestors is a disrespect to the value of democracy. The action was obviously unconstitutional as protesting is one of the rights in this democratic country and by doing so the UPA government has curbed the rights of people, he added.
Speaking further he urged the government to set up a grievance cell headed by an officer in each districts in order to hear the voice of public immediately. He also stressed that a chart describing the duty of officers should be displayed in all the government offices to convince the public.
Students, members of several organizations and officers have joined the postcard campaign which will continue for another two days in the district. More than 1,000 postcards are expected to be sent to the Prime Minister, said Bhat.
Members Vidya Dinakar, Nithyananda Rao, Ananda Rao, Walter, Abdul Basith and Shabeer among others were present.
