Udupi: College Day, awards ceremony of Manipal College of Dental Sciences held

Udupi, Dec 22: Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal celebrated its College Day and held an award ceremony on December 14.

Dr H S Ballal, the pro chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, the chief guest of the day spoke about how the journey doesn’t end rather it’s just a chapter in the lives of the graduates. Dr Ballal explained how MAHE is an Institute of Eminence. He mentioned that this was because of the quality and commitment of faculty. He congratulated the students for graduating from the best dental college in the country. He also mentioned that once the students would have graduated, there would be a lot of expectations on them and that the students would fulfil them. He mentioned that reaching the top is hard but staying at the top is more difficult. Dr Ballal congratulated the graduates who had won awards on that day. He wished the students a great future.

Dean of KMC Manipal Dr Sharath Rao was the guest of honour. In his address to the graduate, He spoke about how the founder of Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dr.TMA Pai who overcame the ill health, illiteracy and poverty in the society through his contributions. He stated that the aim of the university is to produce successful doctors, and hence the university has strong academics and co-curricular activities. The institution has committed faculty, skill learning stations, state-of-the-art equipment and health care system and modern diagnostic aids. He also mentioned that there is a Robust research program and opportunities for Inter university collaborations. He requested the graduates to follow the Manipal Culture of being lifelong learners, which would help them to keep abreast with what is happening and to excel professionally. He urged them to be a good human being and to maintain a relationship with their alma matar.

Dean Dr Monica Charlotte Solomon welcomed the gathering and presented the annual report of the college and touched upon the various milestones achieved by the institution in research and academic fields.

Dr TMA Pai Award for Best Research paper was awarded to Dr Medhini Madi, Dr Mathangi Kumar, Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy, Dr Vineetha R and Dr Yogesh Chhaparwal for their paper titled ‘’Email and instant messaging applications as platforms for remote oral radiology consultation in maxillofacial fractures.”

The first prize for Best Audio Visual Teaching Aid was awarded to Dr Anand Deep Shukla for Local Anaesthesia Made Simple while the second prize was received by Dr Shaswath Karmakar and Dr Shashi Kiran S for Principles of Periodontal Instrumentation.

The FAIR Award was awarded to Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan while the PRAISE Award was awarded to Dr Soham Mitra and Dr Aditi Tamrakar.

The best outgoing undergraduate student of the year 2022 was awarded to Dr Muskaan Chichra.

The batch and subject toppers as well as outstanding Sportsmen were also felicitated along with the student council and the student research forum.

The student council report was then presented by the student council president Dr Achuth Kelottil. The graduate response was delivered by Dr Muskaan Chichra which left quite a mark on her batch.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Vidya Saraswati, associate dean of Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal. The programme was compered by Dr Shruthi Acharya and Dr Anandeep Shukla.
