Mangaluru, Jun 22: With the blessings of A Shama Rao, founder of Srinivas University and under the guidance of Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao, chancellor of Srinivas University, and Dr A Srinivas Rao, pro chancellor of Srinivas University, Managaluru, the eighth International Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21 by the department of Clinical Psychology in the auditorium, Medical college, Srinivas University, Mukka.
The eminent chief guest for the day was Hariraj Shettigar, Yoga Teacher, Yakshagana artist and instructor. The programme was precided by Dr Udaya Kumar, dean, Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and graced by the presence of Dr H Devakara Bhat, professor of department of Yoga and Sanskrit Studies and Research, Devaseelan, dean, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Srinivas University. The programme started with a prayer followed by lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries.
The chief guest Hariraj Shettigar addressed the gathering by highlighting the importance of Yoga in everyday life and it’s overall benefits. Dr Udaya Kumar, dean Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences, addressed the audience on the importance of yoga and creating awareness of the day. The highlight of the programme was the demonstration of yoga asanas and pranayam's by Hariraj Shettigar with Devadathan, student of first year MSc Clinical Psychology to the students, followed and performed by students of both BSc and MSc Clinical Psychology, explaining physical benefits and mental harmony through regular practice of yoga .
The programme was organised by the coordinator Priyadhersini S, department of Clinical Psychology, and faculties Asha N and Harshitha.
