New Delhi, Apr 28: In a thrilling clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Krunal Pandya's all-round brilliance stole the show, propelling RCB to the top of the IPL 2025 points table. After a tough start to their chase, RCB managed to overhaul DC’s total with nine balls to spare, thanks to a splendid 73-run knock by Pandya.
Looking back at their previous encounter in Bengaluru, where DC had stunned RCB with a remarkable chase, the roles were reversed in New Delhi on April 27. DC posted 162/8, aided by tight bowling from Krunal and Suyash Sharma, which had fans talking about a possible turnaround.
However, when RCB were reduced to a challenging 26/3, hopes seemed to rest on Virat Kohli to deliver another iconic performance. Yet, it was Krunal, promoted to No. 5, who stepped up to the challenge, calmly constructing a match-winning knock. His 73 runs off 47 balls were a perfect blend of aggression and composure, highlighted by a 119-run partnership with Kohli, who scored a vital 51 runs.
Krunal’s knock started slowly, with him being on 17 off 21 balls at the halfway stage. But a shift in gears saw him explode for 56 runs off his final 26 balls. His powerful hitting, which included three sixes, one of which was a towering shot over cover off Kuldeep Yadav, and his boundary-filled assault on Mukesh, turned the game in RCB’s favour.
The highlight of the night was Krunal’s return to form, not just with the bat but also as a bowler. Pandya, who had often been known for his defensive bowling, delivered an attacking spell, taking key wickets and restricting the opposition. His 1/28, including a key breakthrough of Faf du Plessis, was a testament to his growing reputation as an all-rounder in IPL 2025.
RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, praised Krunal for his leadership and tactical acumen, stating, "Krunal did a great job going in just to break a bit of that momentum for us and build a partnership with Virat, which he did brilliantly." Bobat also noted how Krunal’s contribution with the ball had been invaluable, highlighting his attacking approach this season.
With RCB’s win, they not only secured their place at the top of the table but also reaffirmed their championship credentials. The balance of experience and youth within the squad, with players like Pandya stepping up under pressure, has made them a formidable force this season.
As RCB looks to maintain their momentum, Krunal Pandya’s performance on April 27 was a shining example of how adaptability and experience can turn the tide in big moments.
