Mangaluru, Jun 21: The 8th International Yoga Day was observed at St Aloysius College today in Arrupe Block.
The event was jointly organized with Delampady Yoga Foundation and AYUSH Yoga in association with the Student Activity Cell, Department of Physical Education, NCC, NSS, Youth Red Cross and Yoga students.
The 8th International Yoga celebrated with the theme Yoga for Humanity. Many students, lecturers and staff members of the college attended the event. The program started with the lighting of the lamp at the beginning, and ended with a mass Asanas, Meditation and Mudra Yoga.
Nita Shetty, a member of the Delampady Yoga Foundation and a yoga director, gave the perfect guidance for the audience for doing multiple yoga asanas.
Dr Alwyn DSa, registrar of the College was the chief guest and inaugurated the programme. He appreciated the organisers for conducting such a meaningful programme and said the theme, Yoga for Humanity is the prelude to the Yoga Day for Peace and Coexistence in the World with Yoga. Everyone can live healthy by doing Yoga and meditation. He also suggested the students to practice yoga in their day to day life.
Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, expresses his great joy about Yoga Day, adding that yoga keeps the mind and body healthy and motivates the mind to do good for the society. Everybody who practices yoga should always engage in activities that will guide the society like yogis. He said students can gain more memory with yoga.
Dean of the Student Activity Cell, Dr Ishwara Bhat briefed about yoga and welcomed the gathering. Arun D'Souza, firector of Physical Education rendered the vote of thanks.
Mahima Rodrigues compered the event. Student Activity Cell Secretary Leona Allison D'Souza and student secretary for Physical Education Rashmita were present.
