Mangalore, Feb 23: The NSS unit of Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy conducted a day-long free ‘Early Disability Screening Camp for Children’ at Government Pre-University College, Gurupura, recently.
U P Ibrahim, panchayat president of Gurupura inaugurated the event. H Vishwanath, principal of Government Pre-University College, Gurupura, Asmath, taluk panchayat member, Deepak Kotian, Nice-caterers, Gurupura and Dr S Arul Dhanaraj, principal, Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy were present during the programme.
Dr S Arul welcomed the people and explained about the purpose of the camp and the benefits for the children and the parents. The camp was to do disability screening for children below six years of age. Screening was done in the form of questionnaires and physical examination to detect any physical or mental disability.
The Anganwadi teachers, parents, senior staffs Dr Harish Krishna, Dr Hariganesh, Dr Ganesh, Dr Hima, Dr Arun Sharma, along with undergraduate and post graduate students attended the event.
In all, 140 children participated in the camp with their parents. The children with any form of disabilities were referred to A J Institute Medical Sciences (AJIMS), Kuntikana for further management.
