Mumbai, Feb 2 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Wednesday gave up its gains and closed on a sombre note.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,216.91 points, closed at 18,075.55 points (provisional), up 53.33 points or 0.3 percent from its previous close at 18,022.22 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange too shut shop 0.17 percent up at 5,426.2 points.
Broader markets too ended flat with the BSE midcap index closing down 0.14 percent, while the BSE smallcap index was unchanged.
Realty, energy and telecom stocks were among top gainers, while some power and capital goods scrips saw selling.
