Mangaluru, Apr 1: "People have realised that there is no formula for parenting. Many times we wish that we had one formula to apply to all of the situations we face as parents. Spending time with the kids gives us a lot of learning. Every kid is a textbook. Every child is unique. Every child gives a lot of learning for us as professionals and parents," said Dr K T Shwetha, director of Anirvedha Resource Center for Psychological Well Being.

She was speaking during the convocation ceremony of UKG and annual day programme of SCS Pre-school at the auditorium of Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College, Ashoknagar here on Thursday March 31.

"Things that I have felt as a professional, as a family woman is we have a very big role to play in kids life whatever they learn, whatever they do and whatever they are. Every behaviour of kids sends a message to us. They show some form of communication. They are actually trying to tell us something," she said.

"Many times when we understand what they are trying to tell us it is much easier. As parents, we try to correct the behaviour. We try to stop them from being stubborn and cranky. But, what formula works is trying to figure out what makes them cranky or stubborn. Asking yourselves why my child is so, what they are trying to tell us, will definitely know how to work around it," she added.

She advised the parents to make time for kids and themselves. "Kids' growing years are very important for them. Whatever you do for them now, it has a very long-lasting impact on their overall social, emotional, and psychological development," she added.

The principal of Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College said, "Every child is unique. The parents along with giving time to themselves should also give time to their children. When you give time to your family, half of the problem is solved. He also said that making the child's health a priority by providing them with healthy food, avoiding giving them junk food and motivating children to do the exercise," she said.

Dr Rajneesh Sorake, president, SCS Group of Institutions said, "This is indeed a very special day. We worry about what the child will become tomorrow. Yet we forget he is someone today. As parents and teachers, we do put a lot of energy to prepare our children for the future. Today, we pay tribute to the young ladies and gentlemen of tomorrow. We know that they have started their remarkable journey towards achieving their goals. We thank the parents for the fantastic role they have played to facilitate this process," he said.

He also said that SCS Pre-school will be established at Urwa which will commence from this academic year. A school venture, SCS Riverside Academy International Academy, the construction of which is in progress will commence in the academic year from the year 2023-24.

The programme was followed by a colourful performance by children.

Secretary of SCS Group of Institutions Dr Abinay Sorake, principal Vinaya D'Souza and others were present during the occasion.
