Mangaluru: Annual NSS camp held at St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Mar 18: All the NSS camp volunteers woke up at 5 AM and were ready for the prayer session at 6 AM. After prayer all proceeded to the ground for physical exercises. At 7 AM Flag hoisting ceremony was held at the ground in presence of Relisha Rodrigues, faculty, department of Chemistry, St Agnes College. She addressed the NSS Volunteers and spoke on the importance of implementing the values learnt during the NSS camp throughout their lives. Breakfast was served at 7.30 AM and this was followed by preparation for valedictory programme to be held at 6.30 PM in Kelarai Church Hall. Lunch was served at 1 PM.

After lunch, The hall was set and the furniture was arranged for the formal valedictory function. Refreshments was served at 4 PM. The formal function began at 6.30 PM with a prayer followed by a welcome dance. The programme was presided by Sr Dr M Venissa A C, principal, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru. The other dignitaries present were Sr Anitha D’Souza, (headmistress, Amrithlalji High School), Fr Joseph Mascarenhas (priest, St Anne’s Church, Kelarai), Santosh D’Costa (vice president, Church Parish Council, St Anne’s Church, Kelarai), Michael Anthony( member, Neermarga Grama Panchayat), Robert Lancie Pais( ex-president, Neermarga Grama Panchayat), Chetana K M (Student Welfare Officer, St Agnes College, Mangaluru), Charles Pais ( registrar, St Agnes College) and faculty members of St Agnes College.

The programme began with a video presentation prepared by Clarin (II BCA) showcasing all the activities conducted during the camp and the sponsors for the food items given to the volunteers during their stay.

Sr Dr M Venissa A C delivered the concluding remarks about the NSS Camp. She congratulated and appreciated the work done by the NSS units of St Agnes College. She also thanked Fr Joseph Mascarenhas and Santosh D’Costa for providing good facilities for the safe accommodation of the NSS volunteers. Sr Anitha D’Souza congratulated all the NSS volunteers and appreciated all the work done by them in Amrithlalji High School and surrounding area. Fr Joseph Mascarenhas appreciated the discipline, sincerity and the hard work put in by the NSS volunteers in cleaning the High School area, Church premises, surrounding area and also for beautifying the area with painting of natural scenery and art work done using Warli technique. The members of parish council and the residents of Kelarai Parish also appreciated the work done by all the NSS volunteers.

Two NSS volunteers namely Soumya and Clarin shared their experiences during their stay at the camp site. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the competitions namely 'Wealth out of Waste' and 'Essay Writing' conducted for the students of Amrithlalji High School, Kelarai. The certificates for NSS volunteers namely Best Camper, Best Volunteers, Best Group, Best Kannadi and Best Rangoli were also distributed during the prize distribution ceremony.

This was followed by the cultural programme which comprised of Yakshagana, group dance, group song, solo semi-classical dance and a skit. The programme ended with NSS anthem at 8.30 PM.
