Udupi, Jan 19: The state government, through an order, has appointed administrative officers to run zilla and taluk panchayat administrations, till new presidents are elected.
The respective divisional officers will act as the administrative officers of the zilla panchayats, while the concerned assistant commissioners will be the administrative officers for taluk panchayats. However, these appointments will come into effect only after the terms of the current presidents expire, and will last till the new presidents take over.
For example, the terms of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayats expire on January 26. If no presidents are elected before the due dates, administrative officers will take over on January 27. This arrangement has been made to ensure that vacuum is not created if the elections are not conducted before the respective due dates, it is gathered.
