Mangalore, Jan 11: Bearys Welfare Forum, Abu Dhabi, an association of NRIs from coastal Karnataka will organize mass marriage on January 13 for select 15 couples from Dakshina Kannada and Chikmagalur district, said Mohammed Ali Uchil, president of Bearys Welfare Forum, Abu Dhabi at a press conference here on Tuesday January 11.
The marriage ceremony will be held at Milagres Hall in the city and will be inaugurated by P M Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, Qazi of Udupi district.
Each couple will be presented with five sovereigns of gold jewellery and wedding dress at a cost of Rs1.25 lac per couple. This is the third time a mass marriage is being organized for the poor and the needy. Twelve couples in 2008 and sixteen in 2009 got married under this scheme, informed Mohammed Ucchil.
He added that 80% of the total expenditure of Rs 25 lac will be borne by the executive members of Bearys Welfare Forum.
Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar will solemnize the Nikah while Mohammed Ali Uchil will preside over the function.
BA Mohidin, former state minister and B Ahmed Haji Mohiuddin, chairman, Mohiuddin Educational Trust will be honoured on th occasion.
Dr A Subrahmanyeshwara Rao, superintendent of Police, Capt Ganesh Karnik, deputy chairman of NRI Forum Karnataka, C M Ibrahim and U T Khader, MLA will be the chief guests.
M B Abdul Rahman, chairman, Beary Sahitya Academy and Muhammad Rafeeq Krishnapura, coordinator, BWF were present.
