Manipal College of Nursing conducts one-day workshop on Interprofessional Advanced Wound care

Manipal, Mar 03: Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE conducted one-day workshop on Interprofessional Advanced Wound care on February 28 in collaboration with HBS Kollagen India. The workshop was attended by MBBS & Nursing interns of Manipal College of Nursing and Kasturba Medical College, to equip them on advanced wound management as they graduate.

The workshop was graced by Dr Naveen S Salins, Professor & Head, Palliative Medicine and Supportive care, KMC, MAHE Manipal as the chief guest and Mr Satyendra Bhat, Vice President HBS Kollagen was the guest of honour.

The workshop was also attended by Dr Judith A Noronha, Dean MCON, MAHE Manipal, Dr Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Professor & Convener and also the Coordinator of the Manipal HEAL Academy Wound care centre, Raj Bommakanti, Vice President HBS USA and Mr. Selvam Joseph Watts, the N S
M HBS India.

The Chief Guest Dr Naveen S Salins, Professor & Head, Palliative Medicine and Supportive care, KMC, MAHE Manipal emphasized on health professionals’ awareness and skills towards varying wounds across the speciality and stressed that treating right wound with the right material with holistic approach to suit every patient needs a mandate protocol of practice and interprofessional team Satyendra Bhat, Vice President HBS Kollagen , the guest of honour for the workshop was impressed with the response of the medical and nursing team that took a leap into this specialized area where skills are a mandate for MBBS and Nursing graduates. He promised positive journey towards wound care and supporting future training and research in a bigger picture in collaboration with MAHE Manipal.

Speaking on the conduction of the workshop Dr Judith A Noronha, Dean MCON, MAHE Manipal said “MCON is extremely glad to be conducting this workshop. The importance to have competency-based approach to wound care cannot be stressed enough. Workshops like these play a critical role in this regard .We firmly assure our support towards the Manipal HEAL Academy activities to train graduates of both the institutes i.e., MCON & KMC graduates over the years and bring forth research outputs. Working with interprofessional team serves the right view of quality patient care” Dr Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Professor & Convener and the Coordinator of the Manipal HEAL Academy Wound care centre “Some of the prominent highlights from this collaboration with HBS will include training MBBS & Nursing interns, UG/PG / PhD research activities, post-doctoral fellowship invitation, wound practice sites in OPD run by IP team faculty and students, standardization of wound care protocols and introduction of AI into wound assessment and management. The team will host scientific conferences and workshops in collaboration with renowned wound care organizations across the globe making this centre a unique model of Interprofessional Advanced wound care centre”

Dr Raj Bommakanti, Vice President HBS USA addressed the graduates via virtual mode about the kind of Kollagen products for wound management and the employability platform for young graduates. Mr Selvam Joseph Watts, the N S M HBS India, provided hands on products and its uses in the kinds of wound that we manage in our clinical set up. He described about the role of Kollagen in wound healing with leading case studies with his two decades experience.

The workshop was attended by many doctors and professors of both KMC Manipal and MCON who imparted their experiences and knowledge to students in wound management. The workshop included live videos of wound debridement and dressings that emphasized the importance of skills to the young graduates. The students were also shown the importance of patients’ clinical environment and also correct practice in terms of sample collection, diagnosis and management of medication which needs authenticity.
