Mangalore, Jan 10: Pushpaka Vimana, the legendary flying machine of vedic period artistically recreated by Team Mangalore won the 'Best Unique Shaped Kite' award in the recently-concluded International Kite Festival in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
The Mangalore-based hobby group of kite flyers have made Mangalore city proud yet again.
The event was keenly contested by twenty kite flying teams including nine teams from abroad. The event was organized by the department of tourism, government of Rajasthan in the palace city of Udaipur, Rajasthan.
The team members Dinesh Holla and Harish Kodialbail participated in the competition in unique Shaped Kite Category.
This achievement is one more feather to the cap of Team Mangalore. In September 2010, the same kite won accolades amongst kites of 43 International Teams and was in 5th position in the International Kite Festival held at Dieppe, France.
It may be recalled that the Team's one more creation 'Gajaraja' had won the second place in the International Kite Festival, 2009 held at Ahmedabad Gujarat.
Sarvesh Rao, captain of this hobby group team feels that the award is an appreciation for the hard work put in by the team in making kites of unique design and the good wishes from people of Mangalore.
The team is now all set to participate in the kites festivals being held at Belgaum and Bangalore. The Team has been officially invited to participate in the International Kite Festival at Dubai scheduled to be held from January 21.
