Mangaluru: Student Union inauguration held at University Evening College

Mangaluru, Feb 19: ' Student Union 2021-22' was inaugurated in University Evening College, Mangaluru on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Ravindra Kala Bhavana.

The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Akshay Shridhar, IAS, commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation. He spoke about his student days as an office bearer in student union. It is a freedom of students. It is an opportunity to lead oneself and learn a lesson from it. Participating and learning is the beauty of Student Union. To be a leader is not easy, there are lots of expectations. Now is the time to lead and fulfill one’s goal.

Chief guest professor Dr Karunakara A Kotegar, MIT, Manipal, president IAESTE India and Syndicate member of Mangalore University spoke about 10 points to become successful even for a zero talent student. Being on time, making an effort, being of high energy like a youth, having a positive attitude in any situation, being passionate in what you do, good body language which gives confidence, being coachable, doing a little extra will enable one to be successful. One should do these without any expectation, be prepared and having a strong work ethic makes a difference, he felt.

Professor P S Yadapadithaya, honourable vice chancellor, Mangalore University in his presidential remarks advised 'Sow a seed of good in every adversity'. One should not sulk but identify what they have. Think what we can and what we will. He gave the importance of punctuality. One should put physical effort along with mental effort. One should educate, empower and energize and keep on learning till the last breath.

Dr Subhashini Srivathsa, principal of the College welcomed the chief guests and the gathering.

Dr Madhav M K, deputy director of the Student Union, co-ordinator of MA Tulu preached the oath to the members of the student council. Student Welfare officer Dr Jagadeesh B, and Dr Devadas Pai – co-ordinator of MA Konkani programme were present. Student Union president Nanjundaraj, secretary Harshitha G Bhat, joint secretary Sushreetha Shetty, secretary of Finance Kuljeet Singh, and joint secretary Yashwitha were on the stage.

Compeering was done by Dr Mohan K S, Madhushri J Shriyan introduced the inaugurator Akshay Sridhar, Latha K V introduced the chief guest Dr Karunakar, Santhosh introduced the vice chancellor, students of Fine Arts invoked a prayer. Raghavendra read the list of prize winners. Vote of thanks was rendered by Nanjunda Raaj. Kuljeeth Singh compeered the Cultural programme performed by the students. Teaching and non teaching faculty and students were present during the programme.

On this occasion competitions were conducted among students. In Debate, first prize was bagged by Chaithra and Dinesh of III BCom, IInd prize by Ganesh and Swathi of II BA and IIIrd prize won by Rizwan and Tilak of III BCA. In Product Launch competition first prize was bagged by Harshitha G Bhat of III BCom, IInd prize by Chaithra and team of III BCom and IIIrd prize won by Gaurav and team of I BCom. In Ad-mania competition first prize was bagged by Vishal and team of II BCom, IInd prize by Chaithra and team of III BCom and IIIrd prize won by Roopa and team of I BCom.
