Bengaluru, Jan 31: The Health Department in Karnataka has witnessed a progress unseen in the last 75 years, claimed Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar in Bengaluru on Monday, January 31.
Speaking at a function at a Krishnaraja Puram Assembly Constituency when Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai dedicated a 100-bed Maternity and Pediatric Hospital in the government hospital, he said oxygen beds that were available only in district and super-speciality hospitals have now been made available even in community health centres.
The State is rapidly progressing to achieve the goals set by the World Health Organisation for reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. Karnataka has made remarkable progress in the health sector, especially in ensuring availability of hospitals and medical care to the people.
“It is the intention of the State Government to ensure that quality medical treatment and excellent health services must be made available not only in Bengaluru but to people in every corner of the State,” he said.
Dr Sudhakar said he had dreamt of bringing reforms in the State’s health sector since the last 15 years. “I got the opportunity now. The health sector in the State is progressing and developing to international standards. There was a time when people had to struggle and wait for the arrival of ambulance. Now, emergency ambulance services have been started,” he said.
The minister went on to proclaim that the Eastern parts of Bengaluru will have Super Speciality Hospital and Medical College in the PPP model soon. Nepro, Urolgoy, Cardiology, Oncology and other treatment facilities will be avbaialble, he said.
The Health Minister said Karnataka has secured the first rank among the bigger and larger stages in Covid vaccination. While 100% of people have obtained first dose, the percentage of people who received the second dose is 87. Thus, the State has become a model in the country in Covid vaccination, he said.
Dr Sudhakar said the government hospital in K R Puram will have 100 beds, of which 50 will be ordinary and remaining 50 will be having ICU, Ventilators and other speciality services. The original cost of the project fixed at Rs 30 crore has been enhanced to Rs 50 crore with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai immediately accepting the request of the Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj to upgrade the hospital.
