Mangaluru: Branch associations get delightful inaugural at SJEC

Mangaluru, Dec 5: The branch associations of all UG and PG programmes at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, were inaugurated on November 27. Gopalkrishna Bhat, managing director of Kakunje Software Pvt Ltd was the chief guest on the occasion.

The programme began with an invocation by the college choir that was followed by a video presentation of activities conducted by the associations as well as student clubs during last year and the plans for the current academic year. Dr Purushothama Chippar, head of department of Mechanical Engineering welcomed the gathering.

The programme was formally inaugurated by lighting an electric lamp, an innovative product of SJEC students following which Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza felicitated office bearers of all department associations.

Dr Ramananda H S, Dean of Student Welfare, in his speech explained the activities conducted by all the associations. He also gave details of different societies like IEEE, ISTE CSI and IEI.

Later, Gopalkrishna Bhat, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC and Fr Alwyn D’Souza, Assistant Director of SJEC felicitated students who had brought laurels to the institution in the technical competitions outside the college.

The chief guest appreciated SJEC for being active even during the pandemic period. He congratulated the achievers for their effort to excel during these troubled times. He mentioned the MOU his firm has with SJEC and thanked the college for all the support. He went on to say that SJEC is known for innovation and the institution has respect for small start-ups like Kakunje Software. He appreciated the fact that SJEC recognises knowledge and work over the brand name. He called upon the students to take up certification courses and get involved in hands-on projects. He also suggested that students must work on projects having a socio-economic impact.

In his presidential address, Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, welcomed second-year students to the department associations. He said these associations, societies and clubs are a vibrant platform for students activities with ample opportunities. He said students must be involved in innovative projects and added that these associations help in upskilling the students. He called upon the students to make use of the facilities available in the college and come up with creative solutions to real-world problems.

Dr Dayakshini, head of Electronics and Communication Engineering proposed the vote of thanks. Melroy Fernandes of IV EEE compered the inaugural.
