Mangaluru, Dec 3: Since the Year 1992, December 3, is observed as International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) under the mandate of the United Nations. The international theme for IDPD 2021 is 'Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world'. IDPD aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
Book Release:
On this occasion, Yenepoya Specialty Hospital, Kodialbail, Mangaluru in collaboration with The Sam's Clinic will be releasing a handbook for caregivers titled 'Menstrual Management in the Intellectually Disabled' authored by Dr Mehnaz Abdulla at 9:30 am at the auditorium of Yenepoya Specialty Hospital, Kodialbail, Mangaluru. The book will be released by Sr Maria Jyothi, founder of Mangaluru’s first special school and a recipient of Karnataka State Rajyotsava Award. Vidya Shenoy, behavioural trainer and Lydith Pinto, retired bank employee will be the guests of honour. Dr Muhammed Tahir, medical director of Yenepoya Specialty Hospital, Kodialbail Mangaluru will preside over the function. Dr Sally Mery Abraham, HOD, dept of OBG, YMCH, Derlakatte will be a special invitee for the ocassion.
Free Screening Camp:
The book release function will be followed by a screening camp for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Free consultation will be provided by our team of Gynecologist, Pediatrician and Physiotherapist specialized in disability issues during the screening camp from 11:00am to 1:00 pm on outpatient basis.
Yenepoya Specialty Hospital, Kodialbail Mangaluru further dedicates itself to create and sustain a friendly environment for the differently-abled people and provide special OP clinical facilities for those in need. Disabled persons will be given priority for all services required in the hospital. This is the first such service being provided in healthcare sector in Mangaluru for girls and women with the special emphasis of gynecological issues faced by intellectually disabled. The gynecologist will also provide counseling to the parent and caregivers with regard to the above.
