Udupi: KMC Manipal organizes CME on Forensic Nursing

Udupi, Nov 23: Centre for Clinical and Innovative Forensics, KMC Manipal and department of Psychiatric Nursing, MCON, Manipal, Manipal Academy of Higher Education jointly organized CME on Forensic Nursing to enhance knowledge among the staff nurses and nursing students of government and private hospitals at Manipal and Udupi.

The programmr was attended by the guests of honour Dr Judith Noronha, dean, Manipal College of Nursing and Dr KrishnanandaPrabhu, associate dean, KMC Manipal. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Krishnananda Prabhu said that forensic nursing is the need of the hour and nurses should be well aware of the medicolegal examination and the evidence collection. dean, Dr Judith in her address spoke about the integration of Forensic Nursing in the Basic Nursing Curriculum will help the students to give care to victims of sexual violence, child abuse and other serious crimes.

Dr Vinod C Nayak, professor and coordinator, Centre for Clinical and Innovative Forensics, welcomed the participants and took an orientation session on Forensic Nursing. Renjulal Yesodharan, assistant professor, department of Psychiatric Nursing give an overview of the programme and Dr Tessy Treesa Jose associate dean, Manipal College of Nursing rendered the vote of thanks. Dr Ashwin Kumar and Dr Shankar M Bakkannavar from the dpartment of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology took sessions on Sexual Assault Examination and Documentation.
