Mangaluru, Apr 28: Dr Shalet Rebello has been awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree by Kannada University, Hampi, for her research titled "Primary Agricultural Credit Co-operative Societies Credit System and Farmers’ Development." Her study was conducted under the guidance of Dr Janardhana, professor in the Department of Development Studies at Kannada University, Hampi, with co-guidance from Dr B Paramesha, professor and principal of Acharya Patashala College of Commerce, Bengaluru.
Dr Shalet hails from Mulki. She is the daughter of Sylvester Rebello and the late Precilla Rebello, and sister of Sherin Priya Pinto. She is married to Aneld Christon D'Souza, and the couple resides in Kulshekar with their son, Anshal Shan D'Souza.




Her research focused on the operational dynamics of Primary Agricultural Credit Co-operative Societies (PACS) at the grassroots level. It critically examined their role in credit distribution, accessibility and repayment behaviour among farmers, institutional challenges, and the broader impact of PACS on sustainable rural and agricultural development.
“This achievement is not just mine — it represents a step forward in amplifying the voices and struggles of our farmers,” Dr Shalet remarked.
