Mangaluru, Nov 12: “Deepavali signifies the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It also symbolizes the eradication of ignorance with the light of knowledge,” said Prakash P S, CEO, Hosa Digantha-Kannada daily. He was addressing the gathering as the chief guest on the occasion of Deepavali celebration at Expert PU College, Valachil-Mangaluru. He also said that India is one of the nations where people pray to god every day for the wellbeing of the whole world and every living creature in it. There will be peace in the world only when India becomes the superpower. He advised the students to work towards nation building besides focusing on individual goals.
Speaking on the occasion as guest of honour, Yogish B Acharya, general manager-Canara Bank called on the students to be driven by passion for excellence. He lauded the success story of the Expert College as a trail blazer educational edifice.
The whole campus was beautifully illuminated with colourful hanging lanterns (goodudeepas) and flickeringdiyas (earthen lamps) for the unique Expert Deepavali which created an atmosphere filled with divinity. The students donned their traditional attire and there was a festive spirit in the air.
Professor Narendra L Nayak, chairman Expert Group of Institutions presided over the function and extended deepavali greetings to the gathering and felicitated the chief guest and the guests of honour.
Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions, in her introductory remarks said that we need to eliminate the darkness of evil within us. She also stressed on the need to celebrate Deepavali to foster harmony and national unity.
Shashi Vyas, CEO, Pancham Nishad, Mumbai was the special guest on the occasion.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the goodudeepa competition. Scintillating dandia dances were performed to mark the occasion. The event concluded withthe releasing of numerous sky lanterns which set the night sky ablaze. At the end there was a sumptuous festive dinner. Ankush N Nayak, director- Information Technology, Expert Group of institutions; Deepika A Nayak, architect; Ustad Rafique Khan, trustee and Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal were present on the occasion.
Anitha P Shetty of the department of English and assistant programme director extended a cordial welcome to the dignitaries. Rakshith M R HoD of the department of Physics and programme director proposed vote of thanks. Amulya of F2 batch and Vrushank of N2 batch compered the programme.
