Mangaluru, Oct 21: A police personnel of Ullal police station was lucky to escape a rowdy sheeter’s swipe of a sword when he tried to nab the armed miscreant. The incident occurred at Dharmanagara of Ullal when the police personnel went to arrest the rowdy sheeter as he had a court warrant.
The police were on the hunt for Mukthar Ahmed, resident of Dharmanagara, as he has more than 10 cases on him and was absconding without presenting himself at the court. So the police personnel of Ullal police station had gone to Dharmanagara in order to arrest Mukthar on Thursday October 21 morning.

When the police reached the residence of Mukthar, he came out of the house brandishing a sword at the police and got on to the bike of Nawaz and escaped from the spot. The police chased the duo and waylaid them at Thokottu over bridge. However, Mukthar managed to escape from the spot. His accomplice Nawaz in a bid to escape from the police hit his bike against a Wagon R vehicle and fell on the road. Nawaz is the brother of Dawood, main accused in the Target Illyas murder case that took place years ago. Police are verifying his criminal background also.
Vasu, Ranjit, Chidanand and Akbar, police personnel of Ullal police station conducted the operation. As accused Mukthar tried to escape on bike, Vasu, one of the police personnel, went across the bike in a bid to catch him. Mukthar swung the sword at him and Vasu escaped narrowly from getting hit.
