Two convicted in separate cheque bounce cases in Mangaluru, Beltangady

Mangaluru/Beltangady, Feb 4: In two separate cheque dishonour cases, the courts have sentenced two accused individuals.

In the first case, the 9th JMFC Court in Mangaluru convicted Naveen Acharya, the owner of V5 Tech Engineering Works in Brahmavar, under CrPC Section 255(2). The court imposed a fine of Rs 3,03,000, with an order that failure to pay would result in three months of imprisonment.

Naveen had issued a cheque for the purchase of sports equipment from Prime Sports Company in Mangaluru. However, as the cheque was dishonoured, the company's owner filed a case in court. After conducting a trial, Judge Dr Shilpa Byadagi confirmed that the dishonour was intentional and sentenced the accused accordingly.

In another cheque bounce case filed before the Senior Civil Court in Beltangady, the court convicted the accused, Nizamuddin from Charmadi village, for issuing a dishonoured cheque of Rs 1 lac to Pavan Kumar from the same village. The court imposed a fine of Rs 1,03,000, directing that Rs 1,02,000 be paid as compensation. Failure to pay the fine would result in six months of imprisonment.
