Mangaluru, Oct 19: Muslims in Karnataka are celebrating Eid Milad on Tuesday October 19. Eid Milad is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. At many places, Eid will be celebrated on October 20.
On this occasion, Muslims celebrate the life, teachings, sufferings and character of the Prophet. It is believed that the Prophet had even forgiven his enemies.
On Eid, people wear new clothes, offer prayers and exchange gifts. The festival falls in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, which is the third month of Islamic lunar calendar, associated with the sighting of the moon. The date also marks the death anniversary of the Prophet.
This time, the celebrations are subdued as per the government orders because of the threat of pandemic. The administration has barred processions, and limited prayer meetings to a maximum of 100 participants.
On Tuesday morning, Muslim brethren took out a procession from Nadupalli to Bokkapatna Dargah in the city to commemorate Eid Milad.
