Mangaluru, Oct 2: On the occasion of 152nd birth anniversary of Gandhiji, the Victorians participated in a prayer service organized by the student council to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation on Friday October 1.
Vice principal Sr Judith AC inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp along with college president Ashwini and college vice president Aysha Faiza. Gandhiji’s favourite devotional hymn Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram and Vaishnavojanto were also sung in his fond memory. The assembly was compered by Ayesha Zulfa of II Science.
In addition to this, poster making and essay writing in English were arranged as competitions for students to inspire them with the philosophies of Gandhiji, as he always said, My life is my message'.
Mahatma Gandhi believed that it is not cleanliness only that is important, but a social order on equal status is the essence of Shramadaan. Shramadaan also motivates people to live in hygienic surroundings and also inculcates simplicity in the minds of every citizen, freedom from the complexity of the thoughts and the importance of cleanliness and green environment. Inorder to instil this value in the youngsters, the staff and students of the college worked hand in hand with the sense of unity and ownership resulting in a clean campus, having a positive impact on themselves and the surroundings.
The Victorians also participated in the Beach Cleaning Event organized by the National Service Scheme of Swastika School, Mangaluru on Saturday October 2 at Panambur beach to commemorate Gandhi Jayanthi.
