Mangaluru, Sep 11: Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.
Teachers’ day is celebrated in India every year on September 5. Students express their gratitude and appreciation for their teachers on this day. This day is dedicated to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan - second President of India. The great academic philosopher and one of the most well-known diplomats, scholar, President of India and above all a teacher. As a tribute to this great his birthday has been observed as Teachers’ Day.
Amidst the pandemic situation it was raining showers in St Agnes School a great day was celebrated with a wonderful contribution by the students virtually to their teachers on remembrance of their efforts and guidance they give to make them the best. The programme presented by student’s prayer service, dance, a song, the significance of the day, action dance and wishing virtually to the teachers. Indeed, a unique way of showing gratitude. Another important way of recognising this day was the students showed their gratitude by greeting the teachers from their respective balconies. The feeling of love was expressed by the students and parents.
A formal programme was arranged for the teachers for their great contribution towards making school a better place to learn. The day began with a thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Fr Richard Quadras OFM director of Divine Retreat Centre Bejai, Mangaluru. In his message he shared his experience as a teacher and said smile is the pure essence for a child to create a great bond between teacher and student. He also offered special prayer to the teachers with all the teachers lighting the lamps as a symbol of self-offering and rejuvenating themselves to the humble profession. Thereafter he also wished the teachers on this great day. The Mass was a glorious event by a wonderful choir sung by sisters and teachers. The teachers also made their offerings as a part of sharing. The mass ended with novena for Mother Mary.
The programme continued with a meaningful prayer service highlighting the symbols of a plant, clock, heart, compass and mirror depicting the importance in teachers’ life with inspirational prayer songs were conducted by Sr Marina AC and Sr Sweedal.
Sr Maria Gracilda the principal welcomed the gathering and shared an important message to the teachers by presenting a video 'The Heart of a teacher'. A surprise video was presented by the students of grade X expressing their gratitude to all the teachers being with them and nurturing them always.
Teacher Sumitra dressed as Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishna enthralled the audience and shared words of wisdom to the teachers followed by a wishing song ‘You are such a special teacher’ was sung by a group of teachers. A dance depicting the immense talents of teachers was presented by teachers Madura and team.
Teachers Janet and Supritha shared their experience as an Apostolic Carmel Educator they highlighted their thoughts on building spirituality through systematic prayer service, retreats. Discipline the most important aspect to be developed in teachers. Enrichment programmes, seminars have helped to grow professionally and personally. The role of management in the professional development of teacher by constantly motivating and appreciating the creativity. The number of years is not important but the quality of your work is what makes you a holistic teacher was expressed.
The programme continued with yet another surprise by distributing potted plants and cash contribution to all staff, non-teaching staff and helpers for their great efforts in building a strong bond of family and joining hands in all work done.
A special message was delivered by Sr Shuba AC the Educational Secretary of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation Karnataka Province expressing her gratitude to all teachers for selfless service put up by them during the pandemic and showered her blessing on one and all.
A motivational speech was delivered by the administrator Sr Edna Furtado AC. Together we learn and grow and wishing al teachers a great success.
Sr Dr Lydia Fernandes the joint secretary of the institution in her speech once again thanked all the teachers for their selfless service and may God give strength to continue to do so.
As a part of entertainment teachers Chandrika and Daphne conducted games to lighten the moods and showing joy by participating to the fullest.
The programme was methodically hosted by teacher Gracilla and the vote of thanks was given by teacher Velony thanking all for their wonderful participation and making the event a huge success.
The wonderful programme was arranged by the great effort of principal, sisters and teachers Josephine and Manisha. A creative background added a special ambience to the day’s celebration.
A memorable day for the educators by all sharing a happy meal on this occasion.
The management, administrator, principal, vice principal and academic coordinator are grateful to all the teachers for their selfless service and extend their hearty thanks to all of them for giving their wholehearted support in every way towards the school. Their hard work, dedication, enthusiasm will always be cherished.
Teachers are the backbone of any country, the pillar upon which all aspirations are converted into realities.
