Udupi, Aug 31: St Mary's English Medium School celebrated the National Sports Day, the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand on August 29, 2021 with great zeal and excitement. The celebration focused around the need of sports and games in our life.
In the formal inaugural session of ‘National Sports Day’ program held at St Mary’s Auditorium on August 18, 2021, Gerald Pinto spoke on the importance of the day. The physical education teachers Gerald, Bhaskar, Renuka and Amitha conducted various games to the teaching and non-teaching staff. The teachers were divided into six groups with 12 members in each namely Mirabai Chanu, Lovlina Borgohain, P V Sindhu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Bhajarang Punia and Neeraj Chopra. Instructions and rules of the games were given by Renuka. The games like balancing the cone, bowling, aiming the joker mouth, backward basketball throw, rolling the tennis ball, bouncing the ball, shooting, mind quick endurance game and sports quiz were conducted. The teachers enjoyed and participated sportively in all the games.
Correspondent Fr Charles Menezes, principal Fr Johnson Sequiera, vice principal Rita Quadros also took part in various games enthusiastically. Principal in his message reminded everyone the pivotal need of indulging ourselves in different sports and games to maintain mental, physical, emotional and spiritual fitness. The program was coordinated by Bhaskar. Amitha proposed the vote of thanks.
