Bengaluru, Aug 27: Karnataka is fully geared to start administering 5 lakh doses of vaccine per day from September 1, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Bengaluru on Friday.
Speaking to media representatives, he said Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has promised to enhance the Covid vaccine supplies to the State.
He said that the Union Minister, whom he met in Delhi, has accepted the State’s request for increasing the vaccine supplies.
Special Covid Guidelines on Aug 30
The Chief Minister said the State Government will come out with special guidelines on the possible Covid third wave on August 30 in view of the forthcoming Gauri-Ganesha festivals.
The guidelines will be finalised at a meeting with technical and medical experts on August 30.
The Chief Minister said he had also discussed with Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on the State’s Mekedatu drinking water project as well Upper Krishna and Upper Bhadra Canal projects.
Discussions were also held with legal and technical experts on speedy resolution of the water disputes pending in the Supreme Court.
GST Compensation, Textile Park
Bommai said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has promised to take up the State’s suggestion for extending the GST compensation to the States by another three years at the GST Council meeting.
The State Government had requested extension of GST compensation by another 3 years in view of difficult financial position and lower revenue mobilisation on account of the Covid pandemic. The GST compensation to the States is scheduled to end next year.
The Chief Minister also disclosed that the Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goel has asked the State Government to submit a detailed proposal for establishing a mega textile park in Karnataka.
The Union Minister has promised to consider the proposal and also help in securing tie-ups with international companies as it will help in creation of jobs, especially women.
DGP to monitor Gang Rape probe
On the Mysuru gang rape incident, the Chief Minister said a special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to crack the case and the SIT has been asked to submit its report to him directly.
“I have also directed the DGP to take direct supervision of the investigation. The DGP has already visited Mysuru,’’ he said the police have been asked to investigate the case at the earliest.
E-Shrama Scheme
The Chief Minister later launched the E-Shrama scheme of the National Unemployed Workers Registration.
Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar, Labour Department Additional Chief Secretary G Kalpana, E-Administration Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Chawla, Chief Minister’s Secretary V Ponnuraj, Labour Department Commissioner Akram Pasha and others participated in the function.
