Mangaluru, Aug 15: Independence Day was celebrated with great honour and respect at St Agnes College (Autonomous), organized by the NCC Army Wing and Air Wing.
The ceremony started in the college ground comprising of staff, sisters of the institution, PI staff of 6 Kar Air Sqn NCC, NCC cadets, students and parents.
The chief guest Sr Dr Lydia AC superior and joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions Mangaluru, Sr Dr M Venissa AC, principal, Sr Carmel Rita, administrator, were escorted by Flg officer Dr Hithakshi and received guard of honour from NCC cadets.
Mihika Haridas, student vice president of Arts welcomed the gathering.
To commemorate the sovereignty of the nation, the chief guest unfurled the tricolor flag and all, in unison sang the national anthem and expressed the joy of freedom.
The students sang the patriotic song which awakened the spirit of patriotism. CPL Vaishnavi spoke about the significance of the day.
The chief guest of the function addressed the gathering, in her speech she said “We need to be positive in our response to our duties; we need to join hands with each other and work towards the progress of the nation. The liberation should come from within us and now it’s the time to focus on what needs to be done for the betterment of our country by using our creativity, potentials and skills. We need to respect each other and serve our country as a responsible human being”.
The programme was compered by Neha Mukund student of III BA. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks.
