Udupi, Sep 24: Adarsh Islamic Centre was inaugurated at Hoode here on Wednesday September 22.
The Islamic centre was inaugurated by Syed Yusuf, Khateeb of Kucchi Memon Masjid, Mangalore. In his inaugural address, he said that Islam has the power to transform an evil person into an ideal one, and wished that the centre too would serve a similar purpose.
Speaking on the occasion, national president of Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) Suhail K K said that the aim of religion should be to create communal harmony and not communal divide. He opined that when religion is restricted to certain rituals, misconceptions arise. As religion stands for the overall development of the society, one must look to it for guidance, he said, and expressed his hope that the Islamic centre would act as a beacon of light to all.
Veronica Carnalio, member of Udupi taluk panchayat appreciated Jamate Islami's social welfare work.
SIO state president Shoukath Ali, Jamate Islami Hind (zonal advisory committee member) K M Shareef, Tonse gram panchayat president Jyothi Louis and former president of gram panchayat Venkatesh Kundhar were the guests.

Hamid Husain, secretary of JIH (Karnataka and Goa), presided over the programme.
The programme began with the recitation of a verse from the Quran by Adil Hoode. Mohammed Idris presented the vote of thanks.
