Xiaomi likely to launch new smartphone with 200MP camera: Report

Beijing, Apr 27 (IANS): Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is reportedly planning to launch a camera-centric smartphone that might feature a 200MP camera sensor.

Currently, 108MP is the largest camera sensor that a smartphone offers.

It is believed that the sensor will come from Samsung and is expected to have 0.64um unit pixel, but far less than the 1.4Im unit pixel area of aaISOCELL GN2, GizmoChina, citing reports, reported on Monday.

Recently, a well-known leakster had revealed that the South Korean tech giant Samsung is planning to launch a new innovative sensor this year under the company's ISOCELL that will have a 200MP image sensor.

Samsung has also hinted that it is developing a 200MP image sensor as the successor of the 108MP sensor found in the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

While not yet confirmed, the company is likely to use the new 200MP sensor on the upcoming Galaxy S22 series flagship smartphones. It could also end up being a part of the company's new foldable smartphone.

Last year, the company announced that it is working on a 600MP smartphone image sensor, although, it will take years before the technology gets commercial, the report said.

Meanwhile, we are waiting for a smartphone equipped with a 200-megapixel camera sensor to launch, which should happen quite soon, it added.
