KUWAIT, Jul 25 (Kuwait Times): Saturday is the second day of the weekend; the last day before people return to their daily grind. Saturday is different from a Friday even though both offer a 'break' from week-long job-related stress in Kuwait, the country where families enjoy their time the most as the general atmosphere of the country is more suitable for family life.

However, responsibilities in the form of familial obligations can ruin weekends that are otherwise enjoyable in Kuwait. Many young and middle-aged couples who have settled down in Kuwait experience this more often. Their parents demand weekly visits and invitations to dinner or lunch.

Rima, a Lebanese wife said that she and her husband spend one evening(of their weekend) at her parents' place and another at her husband's family home. She explained that 'adjustment' satisfies both of them and does not spoil their weekend.

Meeting familial obligations might prove stressful to some couples to such an extent that that it causes rifts between couples. Some wives demand that their husbands spend Saturdays at their parents' place and the opposite holds true as well.

Sabeeka, a Kuwaiti housewife feels that keeping up with social pressure not only ruins the couple's weekends, especially Saturdays when they decide to spend some private time together, it also interferes with their travel plans. She explained that she and her husband used to travel during weekends to Dubai or Bahrain. However, pressure placed by parents to share weekends turn out to be spoilers.

In Kuwait conventions play a major role in the life of married couples. Breaking traditional norms may disturb marital harmony and enjoyment. These days, married couples are striving towards saving their Saturdays.
