Kundapur, Mar 28: A meeting of Saukuru lift irrigation project zone farmers was held on Saturday under the aegis of Udupi district farmers' association Kavradi and Trasi at Durgaparameshwari Bhavan here, today.
President of Udupi farmers' association, Vidhan Parishat member, K Pratapchandra Shetty said that the project costing Rs 73 crore will provide water for 1,350 hectares of area. Varahi project executive engineer informed that the area of Karkunje gram panchayat limits is where the water should be provided. Various farmers expressed their apprehensions over the project. The officials said that the survey numbers through which the water will be made to flow will be informed in another two weeks.
"Pumphouse is being constructed at Gulvadi. 750 HP pump sets will be installed here. The water will be stored at a height of 14 meters at Mavinakatte. It will be made to flow by natural drains. The Rajadi lake will flow towards the tributary. 33 Kindi dam will be constructed at various places. Water will be made to flow on an experimental basis before May," he said.
Raita Sangha district spokesperson, Vikas Hegde, chief secretary, Santhosh Kumar Shetty Baladi, Trasi zone president, Sharath Kumar Shetty, Hebri zone president, Choradi Ashok Shetty, Mandarthi zone president, Gulvadi gram panchayat president Sudesh Kumar Shetty, Hattiangadi gram panchayat president Amratha Bhandary, Gudibettu Pradeep Kumar Shetty, Hariprasad Shetty Kanmakki, Malyadi Shivarama Shetty, Kavradi gram panchayat president Vijay Putran, Kiran Hegde Ampar and others were present.
Varahi irrigation executive engineer, Pravin, assistant executive engineer, N G Bhat and junior engineer, Prasanna gave details of the project.
Kavradi zone president, Sharathchandra Shetty welcomed the gathering. K Pratapchandra Shetty visited the Saukuru irrigation project area, water reservoir at Mavinakatte etc before the meeting.
