Bangalore, Jul 22: State Governor, H R Bhardwaj, said that he would give his assent to Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, only after thoroughly considering its pros and cons, and not earlier.
“None of the bills including the one relating to banning of cow slaughter have been sent to me for my nod. Once they are received, every bill will be thoroughly scrutinized and a decision to sign it or not will be taken thereafter,” he clarified.
Reacting to the government’s decision to hand over the issue of illegal mining to the Lokayukta, the Governor said that it is the duty of everyone to preserve the sanctity of constitutional entities like the Lokayukta and Central Bureau of Investigation. He said he has full respect for, and faith in, Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde.
Opting not to elaborate on the issues, Bhardwaj advised the government to lay more stress on issues that are development-oriented and of public importance, rather than giving undue attention to disputed issues.
