Moodbidri: Trio critically injured after gang attacks them with swords

Moodbidri, Mar 24: Members of a gang attacked three persons with swords on Tuesday March 23. As a result, all the three suffered grievous injuries and were hospitalized.

It is said that the gang wanted to settle scores against these three persons as the gang members had personal enmity with them, and also as they believed that the three had become police informers. The murder attempt was made at Gantalkatte in Kallabaetu village near here.

In the attack, Shabbir, Muhammed Ansar and Ismai, who suffered life-threatening injuries, stand admitted into a private hospital here. It is said that Sahul, Farooq, Jaleel, Ibran and Shaffi from the same neighbourhood launched the said attack.

Ansar was travelling in a car with father-in-law Shabbir and uncle Ismail, when the accused who came in a pick-up van and Ritz car, intercepted the trio. They brandished swords and other lethal weapons on the three. All the three suffered very serious injuries.

It is learnt that the accused have pre-existing animosity against Ansar's father. In the past too, the gang had attacked them, because of their notion that they could be police informers. The murder attempt was repeated now, the police said.

All the three accused have absconded. The accused have become notorious for crimes like cattle theft, communal clashes and other crimes. The police, who have registered murder attempt case in Moodbidri station, are investigating.
