Bengaluru, Mar 20: Karnataka has imposed restrictions on the entry of people from Kerala into Karnataka by road at the borders, duly stipulating COVID negative certificates. This was done in view of the hike in the number of coronavirus positive cases in Kerala and the resultant risks Karnataka faced as a large number of people from Kerala come to Karnataka on a daily basis to attend schools and colleges besides working.
The high court took serious objections to the restrictions, duly questioning Karnataka how was it justified in allowing people coming by flights to go scot free while creating bottlenecks for others.

Advocate B Subbayya Rai, has filed a public interest litigation questioning the restrictions imposed at the border by Karnataka. This petition was examined by a division bench presided over by Chief Justice A S Oka.
The bench expressed strong displeasure at the revised order issued by Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner on March 15. It noted that the order was not in conformity with rules and that it was issued without exercising discretion. It felt that this order will have to be withdrawn.
