Udupi, Oct 9: The principal and staff of St Mary’s English Medium School visited 'Vishwasada Mane' - a rehabilitation center for the destitute, helpless and specially-abled at Shankarapura to extend the charitable service.
Taking forward the long-standing tradition of conducting community service programmes on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, this year the programme has been coordinated under the theme' Palms for Alms' signifying the Biblical message of 'Cheerful giver'.
The programme was organized under the thoughtful leadership of Principal Fr Johnson Sequeira who has been exhibiting staunch willingness to ensure the uninterrupted execution of social welfare activities despite the obstacles created by the corona pandemic. The alms contributed by the management and staff of St Mary's were donated toward the benefit of the inmates during the visit. The donation included clothes, fruits, food, groceries and other daily essentials.
The founder pastor, Sunil John D'Souza offered his prayerful blessings for the philanthropic contribution of St Mary's family. The principal congratulated Pastor Sunil D'Souza and his team for their invaluable service towards the less privileged and the differently-abled. He prayed for the wellbeing of the inmates and assured them that the school would generously extend its helping hand in the days to come if the pandemic situation continues to exist.
Fr Johnson appreciated the spirit of social responsibility upheld by St Mary's staff in integrating this community outreach programme. He said, “The value of service being the essence of Gandhian principles guides the vision and the mission of the school and is consciously reflected in all the activities of the school.” The programme was coordinated by the vice-principal Rita Quadros. Speaking to the officials at ‘Vishwasada Mane’, she conveyed the good wishes and prayers of St Mary’s family members for the health and peace of inmates.
The school management committee member, Walter D’Souza, PRO Vinay Suvarna, teacher coordinators and the senior staff were present on the occasion.
